Meet Afton

“The goal is not to be fearless. The goal is to walk through fear with courage and come out whole.” — Janet Mock

Afton Dyjak, LMSW, is a Licensed Master Social Worker in the state of Connecticut. She earned her Master of Social Work degree from Fordham University with a concentration in Individuals and Families, and her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Central Connecticut State University. Afton is passionate about creating a safe, affirming, and supportive space where clients of all ages can feel heard, respected, and empowered in their healing journey.

Afton has experience providing individual and group counseling to youth and families in outpatient and nonprofit settings. She has worked with clients navigating trauma, substance use, anxiety, depression, and behavioral challenges, and uses a collaborative, strengths-based approach to help clients move toward meaningful change.

She has a special interest in supporting LGBTQ+ youth and their families as they navigate identity development, emotional health, and relationships. Afton is dedicated to creating a space where individuals of all gender identities and sexual orientations feel safe to explore who they are—free of judgment and full of possibility.

Her therapeutic approach integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and client-centered care. She is especially passionate about working with adolescents and young adults, helping them build insight, resilience, and confidence in themselves.

In her free time, Afton enjoys reading, gardening, and spending time with her Boston Terrier, Banks!
