Yamilez earned her bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Eastern Connecticut State University and went on to complete a master’s degree in Educational Psychology at the University of Connecticut. She is currently a School Counselor with over 10 years of experience working in educational settings, supporting students from Pre-K through 12th grade. Yamilez is passionate about empowering clients to take an active role in their mental health and overall wellness through psychoeducation, the development of coping strategies, and individualized treatment planning.
Her therapeutic approach centers on creating a trusting, welcoming, and collaborative space grounded in person-centered and solution-focused counseling. Utilizes evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), as appropriate to meet individual client needs. Emphasis is placed on building a practical coping-skills toolbox while strengthening core skills such as self-advocacy, self-awareness, and interpersonal effectiveness.
