Licensed Professional Counselor
“In order to get different results we have to implement different skills and strategies.” — DaShelle Barco
DaShelle Barco completed her graduate training at South University where she received a degree in Clinical Mental Health counseling. She has spent the past several years serving in a variety of different settings ranging from working with Children and Families impacted by Domestic violence, the prison setting and Drug and alcohol addiction treatment. She has seen time after time in the lives of her clients that positive change is possible despite experiencing unfortunate, traumatic, negative life events.
DaShelle believes that supporting her clients in feeling validated and gaining insight into the challenges they have been facing is essential to healing. She provides psycho education, CBT, supportive reflection and mindfulness practices. She hopes each of her clients will gain understanding, empowerment and an unwavering belief that their pain or past trauma does not define them. DaShelle aims to assist clients in getting “unstuck” and supporting each individual in doing the work to experience positive change.
DaShelle believes every person has the capacity to heal, grow, and create a life that reflects who they truly are, not simply who they have learned to become through pain, trauma, or life experiences. As a therapist, DaShelle is naturally curious, compassionate, and deeply invested in understanding each person’s unique story. Rather than viewing people through the lens of a diagnosis, she strives to understand the experiences, relationships, and beliefs that have shaped them.
Clients often describe DaShelle as warm, thoughtful, and easy to talk to while also appreciating that she asks meaningful questions that encourage deeper reflection and lasting change. DaShelle believes therapy should be a collaborative process where clients feel genuinely seen, challenged when appropriate, and supported as they work toward becoming the healthiest version of themselves.
DaShelle’s approach is trauma-informed, spiritually integrated, and grounded in evidence-based practice. For clients who desire it, DaShelle thoughtfully incorporates spirituality and faith as sources of strength, meaning, and resilience. DaShelle specializes in reframing, helping clients understand their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors as adaptive responses rather than personal failures. This perspective often reduces shame and supports lasting change. Psycho-education is a core part of her work. Clients gain a clearer understanding of the brain, nervous system, and emotional patterns, along with practical tools to manage anxiety, improve emotional regulation, and navigate life transitions with greater clarity and confidence. Clients often report increased insight, emotional stability, and a stronger sense of alignment between their values and daily lives.
