Help for anxiety at Hopewell Health Solutions, Connecticut

When worry won’t switch off

What is anxiety?

Anxiety is the body’s natural response to stress — a sense of fear or apprehension about what’s ahead. In small doses it’s normal, and even helpful. But when worry becomes constant, feels out of proportion to the situation, or starts to interfere with everyday life, it may be an anxiety disorder — the most common mental health condition in the United States.

Anxiety takes many forms — generalized anxiety, panic disorder, social anxiety, and phobias among them — and it shows up in the body as much as the mind, with a racing heart, tension, and restlessness. The good news: anxiety is highly treatable. The board-certified team at Hopewell Health Solutions treats anxiety with evidence-based therapy, medication management when needed, and structured programs — helping you quiet the worry and get back to the things that matter.

Anxiety treatment — common questions

What is anxiety?+

Anxiety is the body’s natural response to stress — a feeling of fear or apprehension about what’s ahead. In small doses it’s normal and even useful. But when worry becomes constant, feels out of proportion to the situation, or starts to interfere with everyday life, it may be an anxiety disorder. Anxiety disorders are the most common mental health conditions in the United States, and they take many forms — generalized anxiety, panic disorder, social anxiety, and specific phobias among them.

What are the signs of an anxiety disorder?+

Common signs include excessive, hard-to-control worry; restlessness or feeling on edge; a racing heart, shortness of breath, or chest tightness; trouble sleeping or a racing mind at night; difficulty concentrating; avoiding situations that trigger anxiety; and irritability, muscle tension, or fatigue. Anxiety shows up in the body as much as the mind, which is why physical symptoms are so common.

What is the difference between everyday stress and an anxiety disorder?+

Everyday stress is usually tied to a specific situation and eases once that situation passes. An anxiety disorder is more persistent and intense: the worry sticks around, feels disproportionate, and begins to interfere with work, school, relationships, or daily routines. If anxiety is hard to turn off, is leading you to avoid things, or is affecting your sleep and health, it’s worth an evaluation.

How is anxiety treated?+

Anxiety responds very well to treatment. At Hopewell Health Solutions, care often combines evidence-based therapy — such as CBT and exposure-based therapy — with DBT skills, mind-body techniques, and, when helpful, medication management. For anxiety that needs more than weekly support, our Intensive Outpatient Program adds structured group and individual care, and our Teen & Tween IOP supports younger clients. Most people see meaningful relief with the right combination.

When should I seek help for anxiety?+

Consider reaching out when worry or fear feels constant and hard to control, when anxiety is interfering with work, school, or relationships, when you’re avoiding places or situations, or when panic attacks are happening. You don’t need to wait until it’s overwhelming — earlier support makes anxiety easier to treat. If you ever feel unsafe, call or text 988, or call 911.
