OCD treatment at Hopewell Health Solutions, Connecticut

More than being “neat”

What is OCD?

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a mental health condition with two parts: obsessions — intrusive, unwanted thoughts, urges, or images that cause intense anxiety — and compulsions — repetitive behaviors or mental rituals done to relieve that anxiety. The relief is only temporary, which is what traps people in an exhausting, time-consuming cycle. OCD is far more than being “neat” or “particular”; it can take over hours of the day.

OCD is not a character flaw, and it isn’t something a person can simply stop doing. It’s a treatable, brain-based condition, and the right care makes a real difference. The team at Hopewell Health Solutions treats OCD with Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) — the gold-standard therapy — along with medication management and, when needed, TMS, which is FDA-cleared specifically for OCD.

Know what to look for

Signs of OCD

OCD takes many forms, but common signs include:

Intrusive, unwanted thoughts, urges, or images
Repetitive behaviors or mental rituals (compulsions)
A strong need for order, symmetry, or “just right” feelings
Excessive checking, washing, or counting
Fear of contamination, harm, or making a mistake
Seeking reassurance over and over
Significant time lost to obsessions and rituals

What OCD treatment looks like here

Our approach to OCD treatment

Built around ERP — the most effective therapy for OCD — and backed by medication and, when needed, TMS.

Exposure & Response Prevention (ERP)

The gold-standard therapy for OCD: gradually facing fears while resisting compulsions, so the anxiety fades and the rituals lose their power. We pair it with CBT to challenge the beliefs that fuel obsessions.

TMS for OCD

When therapy and medication aren’t enough, TMS is FDA-cleared for OCD — gentle magnetic pulses that calm overactive brain circuits, drug-free and with no downtime.

Medication management

Evidence-based prescribing — often SSRIs at OCD-specific doses — from our board-certified providers, with attentive follow-up and adjustments.

Intensive Outpatient Program

When OCD needs more than weekly therapy, our IOP adds structured group and individual support several days a week — without putting life on hold.

Support for kids & teens

OCD often begins young. Our Teen & Tween IOP supports children and teens with ERP and meaningful family involvement.

Whole-person, tailored care

OCD often travels with anxiety or depression — we treat the whole picture, at a pace that feels manageable.

“OCD thrives on rituals and reassurance. With the right treatment, the cycle breaks — and the quiet returns.”

It may be time for support

When to seek OCD treatment

OCD often hides behind shame, and many people wait years to get help. Consider reaching out when:

Obsessions or compulsions take up more than an hour a day
Rituals interfere with work, school, or relationships
You avoid situations that trigger obsessions
Reassurance never feels like enough
You feel shame or try to hide the behaviors
Therapy or medication alone hasn’t been enough

If any of these feel familiar, reach out to the team at Hopewell Health Solutions. OCD responds remarkably well to the right treatment.

OCD treatment — common questions

What is OCD?+

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a mental health condition with two parts: obsessions — intrusive, unwanted thoughts, urges, or images that cause intense anxiety — and compulsions — repetitive behaviors or mental rituals done to relieve that anxiety. The relief is only temporary, which is what traps people in an exhausting, time-consuming cycle. OCD is far more than being 'neat' or 'particular' — for many people it consumes hours of the day.

What are the signs of OCD?+

Common signs include intrusive, unwanted thoughts or images; repetitive behaviors or mental rituals like checking, washing, counting, or arranging; a strong need for order, symmetry, or things feeling 'just right'; fear of contamination, harm, or making a mistake; repeated reassurance-seeking; and significant time lost to obsessions and rituals. People with OCD often recognize the thoughts are irrational but feel unable to stop the behaviors.

What is ERP, and why is it the treatment for OCD?+

Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is the gold-standard, evidence-based therapy for OCD. It works by gradually and safely exposing you to the thoughts or situations that trigger anxiety, while supporting you in resisting the compulsion you’d normally use to relieve it. Over time, the brain learns that the anxiety fades on its own — and the rituals lose their power. ERP is challenging but highly effective, and it’s delivered at a pace that feels manageable.

How is OCD treated?+

At Hopewell Health Solutions, OCD is treated with Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and CBT, medication management when helpful (often SSRIs at OCD-specific doses), and — for OCD that hasn’t responded to therapy and medication — TMS, which is FDA-cleared specifically for OCD. When OCD needs more than weekly support, our Intensive Outpatient Program adds structure, and our Teen & Tween IOP supports younger clients. Treatment is always tailored to the individual.

Can TMS help with OCD?+

Yes. Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is FDA-cleared for OCD. It uses gentle magnetic pulses to calm the overactive brain circuits involved in OCD — without medication and with no downtime. TMS is typically considered when ERP and medication haven’t been enough on their own, and it can be a meaningful option for treatment-resistant OCD.
