ADHD testing and treatment at Hopewell Health Solutions, Connecticut

It’s not a willpower problem

What is ADHD?

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects attention, impulse control, and activity level. It’s not laziness or a lack of effort — it reflects real differences in how the brain manages focus, motivation, and self-regulation. ADHD often shows up in childhood, but many people aren’t diagnosed until their teens or adulthood, when school, work, or relationships make the challenges harder to ignore.

ADHD looks different for everyone — some struggle most with inattention, others with hyperactivity and impulsivity, and many with both. The good news is that it’s highly manageable. The team at Hopewell Health Solutions provides comprehensive testing, thoughtful medication management, and skills-based support for children, teens, and adults — so you can work with your brain instead of against it.

It may be time for an evaluation

When to seek ADHD testing or treatment

ADHD is often missed — especially in adults and those who mask it well. Consider an evaluation when:

Focus and organization are affecting work or school
You suspect ADHD but have never been evaluated
A child is struggling academically or behaviorally
Symptoms are straining relationships or self-esteem
Current treatment isn’t working well
You want clarity on whether it’s ADHD or something else

If any of these feel familiar, reach out to the team at Hopewell Health Solutions. An accurate diagnosis changes everything.

ADHD treatment — common questions

What is ADHD?+

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects attention, impulse control, and activity level. It’s not a matter of laziness or willpower — it reflects real differences in how the brain manages focus, motivation, and self-regulation. ADHD often appears in childhood, but many people aren’t diagnosed until their teens or adulthood, when the demands of school, work, or relationships make the challenges harder to ignore.

What are the signs of ADHD?+

ADHD presents in three ways — mainly inattentive, mainly hyperactive-impulsive, or a combination. Common signs include trouble focusing or staying on task; being easily distracted or forgetful; difficulty organizing tasks, time, or belongings; restlessness or fidgeting; impulsive words or actions; starting tasks but struggling to finish; and frequently losing things or running late. In adults, hyperactivity often looks more like inner restlessness and difficulty with follow-through.

How is ADHD diagnosed?+

ADHD is diagnosed through a careful clinical evaluation rather than a single test. At Hopewell Health Solutions, that may include a structured ADHD evaluation and, when a fuller picture is helpful, neuropsychological testing to assess attention, memory, and learning and to rule out other conditions. A thorough assessment ensures the diagnosis is accurate and that treatment — and any school or work accommodations — is built on solid ground.

How is ADHD treated?+

ADHD is highly manageable. Treatment at Hopewell Health Solutions is tailored to the individual and often combines medication management with skills-based and behavioral support for focus, organization, and emotional regulation. For children and teens, we involve the whole family and support executive-function development. Because ADHD frequently co-occurs with anxiety, depression, or learning differences, we treat the whole picture rather than the label alone.

Can adults have ADHD?+

Yes. Many adults have ADHD that went unrecognized in childhood — often because they learned to compensate or mask it. In adulthood, ADHD can show up as chronic disorganization, missed deadlines, restlessness, difficulty finishing tasks, or struggles with relationships and self-esteem. An evaluation can bring clarity, and treatment can make a real difference at any age.
